Moreira Breaks Through at Mugello
Diogo Moreira delivered his strongest Friday of the season at Mugello, securing a place in Q2 for the first time in his rookie MotoGP campaign. Riding for Pro Honda LCR, the Brazilian put together a composed and competitive Practice session, finishing P10 with a best lap of 1'45.162 on a circuit he openly enjoys.
On a track where he has always felt at home, Moreira finally turned that comfort into results. While the MotoGP machine demands far more precision and consistency than in lower classes, the rookie managed to piece together a performance strong enough to bypass Q1 and book his spot directly into Saturday’s Q2.
Rookie Steps Forward on Familiar Ground
Moreira admitted that while the feeling on the bike has improved, extracting a perfect flying lap remains a challenge in the premier class. Even so, Mugello marked a clear step forward, with both rider and team encouraged by the progress shown on Friday.
Looking ahead, the focus is now on Saturday’s qualifying and Sprint, where Moreira and the LCR crew aim to capitalize on their position and push for an even stronger result.
“I’ve always loved this circuit”
“In the past, I’ve always loved this circuit and have great memories here. With a MotoGP bike, it’s more demanding, and it’s harder to put together a fast lap. I’m happy with today’s performance. We need to keep working like this and try to achieve the best possible result tomorrow and on Sunday.”
