The NBA offseason has barely begun, but the league’s coaching carousel is already moving at full speed.
Following the conclusion of the 2025-26 regular season, multiple franchises have made significant changes on the sidelines as teams look to reset expectations, accelerate rebuilds, or reignite championship ambitions. From high-profile departures to quick replacements, the early coaching movement has already reshaped the landscape heading into next season.
Dallas Mavericks Move On From Jason Kidd
One of the biggest decisions came in Dallas, where the Mavericks officially parted ways with head coach Jason Kidd after five seasons.
Kidd guided the franchise to deep playoff runs during his tenure, including an NBA Finals appearance in 2024 and a Western Conference Finals run in 2022. However, recent instability surrounding the roster and disappointing results over the last two seasons ultimately pushed the organization toward a reset.
The arrival of new team president Masai Ujiri appears to have accelerated the decision, with Dallas now searching for a fresh voice capable of leading the next era built around rising star Cooper Flagg.
Orlando Magic End Jamahl Mosley Era
The Orlando Magic also made a notable change by dismissing head coach Jamahl Mosley after five seasons in charge.
Mosley helped guide Orlando through an important rebuilding phase and led the team to three consecutive playoff appearances. However, repeated first-round exits, including the collapse of a 3-1 playoff series lead this year, convinced management that a new direction was necessary.
The move signals growing urgency within the organization to transform its promising young core into a legitimate Eastern Conference contender.
Milwaukee Bucks Turn to Taylor Jenkins

Perhaps the most surprising coaching decision came from Milwaukee, where the Bucks parted ways with veteran coach Doc Rivers after a disappointing campaign.
In response, the franchise quickly hired Taylor Jenkins to lead the team into its next phase. Jenkins earned widespread respect during his time with the Memphis Grizzlies for his player development and modern offensive system, making him an attractive option for a Bucks roster still built around championship expectations.
Milwaukee’s decision reflects the pressure to maximize the remaining prime years of superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and return to title contention immediately.
New Orleans Pelicans Quickly Land New Coach
The New Orleans Pelicans also underwent major changes after moving on from both Willie Green and interim coach James Borrego.
The franchise wasted little time finding a replacement, hiring Mosley shortly after his departure from Orlando.
Pelicans executive Joe Dumars reportedly valued Mosley’s leadership, defensive philosophy, and ability to develop younger players as the team attempts to build a more stable foundation around Zion Williamson and its emerging core.
More Changes Could Be Coming
With several franchises still evaluating disappointing seasons, league insiders expect additional coaching movement in the coming weeks.
As front offices continue balancing player development, championship pressure, and long-term planning, the 2026 NBA offseason is already shaping up to be one of the most active coaching cycles in recent memory.
