The NBA is BACK with a vengeance after the All-Star break, and the playoff push is officially on! For Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) enthusiasts, this means high stakes and even higher ceilings. Tonight's seven-game slate is packed with opportunities, and we're here to guide you through the noise. Get ready to lock in some winning DraftKings and FanDuel lineups.
Thursday Night DFS Power Plays: Key Insights
- Tyrese Maxey is primed to explode as the primary offensive weapon for the 76ers without Joel Embiid.
- Jalen Johnson (ATL) continues his fantasy tear, facing a vulnerable Philadelphia defense.
- Victor Wembanyama offers elite GPP upside at surprisingly low ownership against the Suns.
- Target the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls defenses; they're leaking fantasy points.
Unleashing the Stars: High-Stakes Core Plays
Tonight, the spend-up options are clearer than the average Thursday night. These players offer both high floors and immense ceilings, making them cornerstones for any competitive lineup.
Tyrese Maxey: Philadelphia's Unchained Engine
It feels like ages since we last dove into a DFS slate, but one thing remains constant: Tyrese Maxey is a monster when Joel Embiid is out. Against the Atlanta Hawks at home, in a game boasting a massive 237-point total, Maxey is the undisputed top-tier play. His minutes and already sky-high usage rate will remain unchallenged. Expect around 50 fantasy points, making him the player with the highest floor on the entire slate. While his roster percentage will be significant, it's entirely warranted.
Jalen Johnson: Atlanta's Rising Powerhouse
On the opposite side of that same high-total clash, Jalen Johnson is another absolute must-play. Don't let the 76ers' recent 6-4 record fool you; their defense has been abysmal, ranking fourth-worst in the league lately. Johnson is currently on an extended heater, crushing the 59 fantasy point mark in his last five games. His FanDuel price reflects his dominance, but he's still a phenomenal value on DraftKings. Expect Johnson to feast against a struggling Philadelphia frontcourt.
Mid-Tier Mastery: Capitalizing on Opportunity
These players present fantastic value at their price points, often benefiting from injuries or incredibly favorable matchups. They're perfect for solidifying both cash and tournament lineups.
Andrew Nembhard: Indiana's Injury-Boosted Guard
Who would've thought Andrew Nembhard would become a core play? Yet, here we are! The Pacers are ravaged by injuries, with key players like Aaron Nesmith, T.J. McConnell, and frontcourt options sidelined. This opens up massive opportunity for Nembhard. His opponent, the Washington Wizards, is the ultimate fantasy goldmine, allowing the most fantasy points per game in the league. They also rank 28th defensively over their last 15 games while maintaining a top-10 pace. Nembhard has proven his ability to hit 50+ DK points twice in his last six, and tonight's "perfect storm" could see him do it again with increased usage and minutes.
RJ Barrett: Toronto's Raptor Against the Rebuilding Bulls
The Chicago Bulls' post-trade deadline defense is an absolute disaster, ranking second-to-last in their last 10 games while playing at the fourth-fastest pace. This makes any opposing player a potential target, and RJ Barrett is no exception. The Duke product consistently clears 34 fantasy points and has a 90th percentile output closer to 45. He's been incredibly safe for cash games, hitting over 27 fantasy points in seven straight and 13 of his last 14 matchups. Lock him in.
VJ Edgecombe: Philadelphia's Underpriced Asset
We're diving back into the Atlanta-Philadelphia game because its highest total guarantees condensed usage and plenty of fantasy goodness. VJ Edgecombe has been averaging around 35 minutes per night, and in this pace-up scenario, his floor is incredibly high. This is one of the cheapest tags we've seen on Edgecombe all season, making it a prime "buy-back" spot. Don't miss out on this excellent value.
Tournament Titans: GPP Targets with Slate-Breaking Potential
For those chasing the big money in GPPs, these players offer immense upside that can separate your lineup from the field. They might carry some risk, but their ceiling is worth it.
Victor Wembanyama: The Alien's Under-Owned Masterclass
Is there a clearer GPP play than Victor Wembanyama tonight? His ownership projection is criminally low (under 8%), likely due to a plethora of cheaper center options. However, no player on this slate has a higher ceiling than the Spurs phenom. While the Phoenix Suns aren't the easiest matchup, "Wemby" is essentially matchup-proof. He's eclipsed 55 fantasy points in seven of his last 13 games. We still haven't seen his absolute peak in terms of playing time and usage, making him an excellent "buy-stock" opportunity.
Scottie Barnes: Toronto's All-Star Against a Collapsing Defense
Against the tanking Chicago Bulls, virtually anyone is viable, but Scottie Barnes stands out. Their defense has truly fallen off a cliff, and Barnes is coming in under 10% rostered despite averaging around 34 minutes and boasting a 25% usage rate. That's pure gold against this Bulls squad! Barnes has delivered two 50+ fantasy point performances in his last four outings, including a massive 65-burger. He can easily hit that 90th percentile ceiling again tonight.
Jalen Brunson: New York's Clutch Point Guard
The Knicks-Pistons game is surprisingly littered with GPP plays, and Jalen Brunson is at the top of the list. Despite a modest 222-point total and potentially lower roster percentage, Brunson has shown his capacity to go nuclear, scoring over 60 points in two of his last five home games. He can be volatile, which is why he's a GPP-only option, but with a close spread, there's a strong chance for extended play and for the Villanova product to activate takeover mode. Sprinkle him into your deep-field lineups.
Value Vault: Essential Budget-Friendly Boosters
Finding cheap, high-ROI players is the secret sauce to unlocking expensive studs. These value plays offer reliable production without breaking the bank.
Tristan Vukčević: Washington's Efficient Big Man
When a player has over a $1,000 price difference between DraftKings and FanDuel, one site usually has it wrong – and that means value for you! Tristan Vukčević is surprisingly efficient, averaging 1.30 fantasy points per minute as he takes over the starting center role for the Wizards. Expect around 25 minutes in a favorable matchup. While Vukčević is my top choice, other center values like Paul Reed, Day’Ron Sharpe, and Adem Bona also offer solid ROI.
Dominick Barlow: Philadelphia's Budget Frontcourt Boost
We've seen Dominick Barlow hit a whopping 57 fantasy points when priced at $3,800, and while we're not expecting that exact ceiling, another strong performance is definitely possible. The Hawks have allowed the second-most fantasy points to opponents overall and to power forwards specifically over their last 30 games. With the Hawks-76ers game featuring the highest total, Barlow will get the run needed for a pay-day performance. He's projected for high ownership, but he's excellent in both cash and GPPs.
Quentin Grimes: Philadelphia's Sneaky Wing Play
Returning to the 76ers' well, Quentin Grimes is easily capable of hitting his seasonal average of 25 fantasy points, which is right where he's projected. In this pace-up environment with likely additional minutes, breaking the 30-point mark is well within reach. Remember to mix and match 76ers players, as while they're set for success, it's tough for all of them to hit ceiling outputs simultaneously.
