Malaysia’s women’s badminton team have received a timely boost at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, with Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan cleared to feature ahead of their difficult quarter-final against defending champions South Korea.
The 19-year-old doubles player had been a fitness concern after suffering a left ankle injury during training last week, shortly before the start of the team event. The setback had raised doubts over her availability for Malaysia’s campaign.
However, Noraqilah has since made progress in her recovery and is now available as Malaysia prepare for a demanding clash against the South Koreans.
Noraqilah’s return provides an additional option for the Malaysian coaching team, particularly as the squad looks to maintain its momentum after a strong start to the competition.
Malaysia advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Hong Kong 3-0, with the team delivering a composed performance across the singles and doubles matches.
The upcoming tie against South Korea will present a much tougher challenge. The defending champions possess considerable strength across their lineup, meaning Malaysia will need consistent performances from every player to remain in contention.

Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah are expected to play an important role in Malaysia’s doubles challenge, while the availability of Noraqilah gives the team further depth as the coaching staff finalise their combinations.
For Noraqilah, the tournament also represents an opportunity to gain valuable experience on her Asian Games debut. After overcoming an injury scare before the competition, she will now hope to contribute if selected for the quarter-final.
Malaysia’s women’s team are aiming to progress further in the competition, but South Korea’s quality will demand discipline, confidence and a strong team effort from the opening match.
