Asia's Pickleball Revolution: RPO Ignites Growth

Fresh off winning the Men’s Doubles title at the PPA Kuala Lumpur Open, the internationally renowned pickleball star has quickly swapped competition for coaching. Now serving as Global Technical Director for the RacketPro APAC Pickleball Tour 2026, he is leading a regional initiative already making its mark in Malaysia, with Vietnam, Japan, and Singapore next on the calendar.

Key Points:

  • RPO's APAC Tour is a groundbreaking initiative targeting coaching standards, competitive play, and community development.
  • Malaysia successfully hosted the inaugural leg, showcasing exceptional dedication and high-class facilities.
  • The COEBRA Intensity Program focuses on developing coaches with both technical skills and leadership capabilities.
  • This tour is a crucial step towards pickleball's ultimate ambition: Olympic inclusion.

The RacketPro Organization (RPO), renowned globally for its gold-standard coach education, has launched its most ambitious regional development initiative to date: the APAC Tour. The mission is clear: elevate coaching standards, ignite competitive play, and foster thriving pickleball communities across the entire region. This tour is poised to redefine the sport's landscape in Asia.

Kuala Lumpur's Landmark Moment: Setting the Pace

From May 14 to May 24, the tour swept through Setia Alam, Penang, Sarawak, Sabah, culminating in a historic Kuala Lumpur MEGA RPO Level 1 Workshop. This event, a regional first, expertly blended professional training, crucial coach certification, and robust community engagement. The overwhelming response underscored Malaysia's passion and potential, validating RPO's vision.

Experts Weigh In on Malaysian Momentum

RPO APAC managing director Connor Nguyen expressed immense satisfaction. "It has been an amazing tour for us," Nguyen stated, highlighting the "high-class" facilities and "amazing" commitment observed. He confidently positioned Vietnam and Malaysia "very far ahead of the others" in regional pickleball development. Echoing this sentiment, pro star Collin Johns added, "The setup is very good, and they are also pushing for many coaches to guide the players. That will definitely elevate their players’ performance." Both Nguyen and Johns see these regional efforts as vital building blocks for pickleball's ultimate goal: Olympic status.

Mastering the Game: RPO's Elite Coaching Blueprint

At the heart of the tour lies RPO's groundbreaking COEBRA Intensity Program. This isn't just about drills; it champions an "Alpha Agile" mindset. Coaches are equipped with not only advanced technical skills but also vital leadership capabilities, decisive thinking, and a long-term vision for sustainable growth. As part of this, an intensive four-week COEBRA program is slated for Vietnam, attracting top coaches from across multiple nations. RPO's commitment extends beyond initial training, as evidenced by the successful Alumni Gathering in Kuala Lumpur, fostering an ongoing, connected coaching network.

The Visionaries Behind the Movement

The tour's stellar educator lineup featured the formidable Collin Johns and Connor Nguyen, alongside Aron Ong, an RPO COEBRA coach specializing in competitive player development. Nguyen's unique background—having founded Vietnam's first professional basketball team, the Saigon Heat, and launched the Vietnam Basketball Association—brings unparalleled strategic depth to APAC pickleball development. Their combined expertise is crafting a new era for the sport.

Beyond Malaysia: The Next Chapters Unfold

The momentum from Malaysia is merely the beginning. The tour aggressively continues, with Vietnam (encompassing Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang) scheduled for June. July will see the RPO team take on Japan in Tokyo and Osaka, followed by a pivotal stop in Singapore. Malaysia has truly set an incredibly high standard, and the rest of Asia is now poised to embrace the pickleball revolution. The future of the sport in the region looks exceptionally bright.
