Andrey Rublev extended his winning streak on clay with a dominant performance at the Millennium Estoril Open, cruising into the quarter-finals after a one-sided victory over Timofey Skatov.
The top seed needed just 59 minutes to dispatch lucky loser Skatov 6-1, 6-1, firing 26 winners in an emphatic display.
The victory was Rublev's fifth in a row following his title triumph at the Bastad Open, where he lifted the 18th ATP Tour trophy of his career. The world No. 14 has now reached his seventh tour-level quarter-final of the season and continues to build momentum ahead of the North American hard-court swing.
"I feel great that I was able to win in straight sets, to be able to spend the least time on court and be as fresh as possible for tomorrow," said Rublev.
Awaiting the Russian in the last eight is France's Luca Van Assche, who upset eighth seed Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
The 22-year-old has impressed on clay this season after winning an ATP Challenger title in Parma. Although he has yet to win a tour-level quarter-final, Van Assche will head into the match with confidence after eliminating one of the tournament's seeded players.
Home favourite Jaime Faria also enjoyed a successful day, defeating qualifier Gonzalo Bueno 6-2, 6-4 to reach his second ATP Tour quarter-final of the season.
The victory continues an encouraging campaign for the 22-year-old Portuguese, who is projected to climb to a career-high world No. 79 in the live rankings.
Italy's Luciano Darderi also booked his place in the quarter-finals with one of the most convincing wins of the day, brushing aside Spain's Pedro Martinez 6-0, 6-1 in just 62 minutes.
The Bastad runner-up arrived in Estoril full of confidence and produced a near-flawless performance as he continued his strong run on clay. All five of Darderi's ATP Tour titles have come on the surface, underlining his credentials as one of the tournament's leading contenders.
"It was not the best day for Pedro, but I thought I played an almost perfect match," Darderi said. "I arrived here with a lot of confidence."
With Rublev and Darderi carrying impressive clay-court form, and home hope Faria still in contention, the Estoril Open quarter-finals promise an intriguing battle as the tournament enters its decisive stages.
