Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open after suffering a persistent right knee injury, putting his US Open preparations ahead of defending his title at the ATP Masters 1000 event.
The Italian confirmed his withdrawal on Sunday after consulting with his doctors and team. While disappointed to miss the tournament, Sinner said he had to accept his current physical condition and focus on his recovery.
“After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I need to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati,” Sinner said.
The decision comes after an impressive run of form for Sinner, who has established himself as one of the leading players on the ATP Tour. His recent success at Wimbledon added another Grand Slam title to his growing collection and further underlined his position among the sport’s elite.

His absence will be particularly significant in Cincinnati given his strong record at the tournament. Sinner won the title there in 2024 and has enjoyed considerable success on the hard courts.
However, with the US Open now approaching, the priority is to give his knee time to recover rather than risk making the problem worse.
Sinner's withdrawal also adds to a growing list of injury concerns among the sport's leading players. Carlos Alcaraz has also dealt with a wrist problem this season, highlighting the physical demands placed on the top players during a packed ATP calendar.
The Cincinnati Open will still feature a strong field, with Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic among the major names expected to compete.
For Sinner, however, the bigger goal is clear. By stepping away from Cincinnati, he will have additional time to recover and prepare for the final Grand Slam of the season, where he will hope to return at full fitness.
