MotoGP legend Casey Stoner believes Pedro Acosta has all the raw talent needed to become a world champion, but says the young Spaniard still needs to develop greater patience if he wants to reach the top of the sport.
Acosta quickly established himself as one of MotoGP’s most exciting young riders after making his premier-class debut, impressing with his speed, aggression and willingness to take on more experienced rivals. However, Stoner believes that same determination can sometimes work against him.
The two-time MotoGP champion said Acosta needs to become more willing to accept that some races will not go his way, rather than always trying to force his way ahead of riders he is determined to beat.
For Stoner, that mindset could be crucial to Acosta’s championship ambitions. Winning a world title is not simply about being fast enough to win on the best days. It also requires knowing when to settle for a result that may not be ideal and avoid turning a difficult weekend into a costly mistake.
Acosta has already shown signs of that maturity. After a difficult start to his MotoGP career that included several crashes, the KTM rider has gradually become more consistent and better at managing races, regularly prioritising strong finishes over high-risk overtakes.

However, Stoner believes there is still another step for Acosta to make.
The Spaniard has yet to claim his first MotoGP Grand Prix victory, with KTM's struggles for performance and reliability making it difficult to judge just how high his ceiling could be. That could change with his move to Ducati, where he will have access to a proven package and a clearer opportunity to show what he can do at the front.
Stoner believes that will be an important moment in assessing Acosta's true potential.
The Ducati move will also put Acosta alongside Marc Marquez, creating one of the most intriguing rider line-ups in MotoGP. Stoner was full of praise for Marquez, highlighting the Spaniard's ability to consistently produce strong results even when circumstances are against him.
That ability to manage difficult races and maximise every opportunity is precisely the kind of championship skill Acosta will need to develop.
With his speed already established, the next challenge for Acosta is learning when to attack, when to settle and when to think about the bigger picture.
If he can combine that patience with his natural talent, Stoner believes the young Spaniard could have everything required to become a serious MotoGP title contender.
