The Minnesota Timberwolves have reshaped their roster and salary structure through a three-team trade involving the Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls. The move sends Julius Randle to Brooklyn, Nic Claxton to Chicago, and helps Minnesota secure a long-term deal for Ayo Dosunmu.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have made a significant offseason move, agreeing to a three-team trade with the Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls that reshapes all three rosters ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft.

Under the deal, Julius Randle heads to Brooklyn, while Nic Claxton joins Chicago. Minnesota receives forward Mo Gueye and moves down in the draft order, exchanging the No. 28 pick for the No. 33 selection.

For the Timberwolves, the trade appears to be driven largely by financial flexibility. Shortly after the deal was reported, Minnesota agreed to a five-year, $112 million contract extension with guard Ayo Dosunmu, a move that signals the franchise's commitment to its young core.

Moving Randle's contract created the room needed to complete the agreement, allowing the Timberwolves to retain one of their key backcourt pieces while maintaining greater long-term salary cap flexibility.

Randle arrives in Brooklyn as a proven scorer and three-time NBA All-Star. The veteran forward averaged 21.1 points per game during the 2025-26 season and is expected to play a major offensive role for a Nets team looking to strengthen its roster. Brooklyn also acquired the No. 28 pick in the draft as part of the transaction.

While Randle remains a productive player, his postseason struggles raised questions about his consistency. He shot 39% from the field and 24.4% from three-point range during Minnesota's playoff campaign, making a fresh start in Brooklyn an intriguing opportunity for both player and team.

Chicago, meanwhile, strengthens its frontcourt with the addition of Claxton. The 27-year-old center has established himself as one of the league's more reliable defensive big men, averaging at least 1.1 blocks per game in each of the past five seasons.

Claxton also contributed 11.7 points per game last season and gives the Bulls a versatile interior presence capable of protecting the rim and defending multiple positions.

The lesser-known piece of the trade is Gueye, who joins Minnesota after spending time with both the Bulls and Toronto Raptors. Although he played a limited role last season, the Timberwolves will have an opportunity to evaluate his potential as they continue building roster depth.

The draft pick swap may also prove valuable. While moving from No. 28 to No. 33 drops Minnesota into the second round, it provides additional flexibility while supporting the club's broader financial strategy.

With the draft approaching, the trade highlights different priorities for each franchise. Brooklyn adds an established scorer, Chicago strengthens its defense, and Minnesota gains the flexibility needed to secure Dosunmu's future while continuing to shape its roster for the years ahead.
