Toprak Razgatlioglu has been forced to bring his MotoGP debut season to an early end after suffering a serious right shoulder injury at the Indonesian Grand Prix, shifting his attention towards recovery and preparations for the 2027 campaign.
The Pramac Yamaha rider dislocated his right shoulder during second practice at Mandalika, with the injury eventually requiring surgery. Despite the pain, the Turkish star attempted to take part in Sunday's race but was unable to continue, making an early end to his season unavoidable.
The setback marks a disappointing interruption to Razgatlioglu's first campaign in the premier class. The 2021 World Superbike champion arrived in MotoGP with high expectations, but his progress has been complicated by the challenges of adapting to the Yamaha machinery and now a significant injury.
Speaking from a medical facility in Milan, Razgatlioglu admitted that ending a season before its scheduled conclusion was an unfamiliar and difficult experience.
“For the first time in my sporting career, I have had to end a season before it is over,” he said, reflecting on the disappointment of being unable to compete.

He also expressed gratitude to Yamaha, his Pramac team, the medical staff overseeing his treatment and the fans who have continued to support him during his recovery.
With his immediate racing commitments over, Razgatlioglu's priority is to regain full fitness before returning to the track. His main target is the 2027 pre-season test at Sepang, scheduled to begin on January 31, as MotoGP prepares for a major technical overhaul.
Missing the Valencia test would be a setback, particularly as teams and riders look to gather early information about the new-generation machinery ahead of the 2027 regulations. However, ensuring that he has recovered properly is more important than rushing back before he is ready.
Razgatlioglu's long-term future with Yamaha also remains an important consideration. He is contracted to the manufacturer until 2028, although his agreement reportedly includes an exit clause for next season.
While his debut campaign has not gone entirely to plan, the Turkish rider's reputation remains strong following his success in WorldSBK. His recovery will now be crucial as he looks to build on his experience and make further progress in MotoGP.
For Razgatlioglu, the focus is no longer on the races he will miss this season, but on returning to full strength and preparing for the next chapter of his premier-class career.
