Trae Young earns his third NBA Cares Community Assist Award for his impact on youth, education and hunger relief.

Trae Young isn't just dazzling fans with his on-court wizardry; he's a true game-changer off it, proving that his impact extends far beyond the hardwood. The Washington Wizards guard has once again been recognized for his extraordinary philanthropic efforts, clinching his third NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award for his impactful offseason work.

Key Highlights of Young's Offseason Impact

  • Washington Wizards guard Trae Young earns his third NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award for outstanding community service.
  • Young personally pledged $100,000 to D.C. organizations, targeting educational access and food insecurity.
  • Significant investment in Oklahoma youth sports infrastructure totals over $4 million, including plans for a new facility.
  • Engaged D.C. youth through personal appearances, mental health discussions, hospital visits, and basketball clinics.

Beyond the Arc: Young's Triple-Threat Community Play

The NBA and NBPA officially named Trae Young the offseason winner, applauding his dedication to expanding educational opportunities, tackling food insecurity, and developing youth sports programs across Washington, D.C. and his home state of Oklahoma. This marks an impressive third career win for the Wizards star, underscoring his consistent commitment to giving back. In recognition, a combined $20,000 will be donated to DC Central Kitchen and DC College Access Program (DC CAP) by the NBA and NBPA Foundation.

Upon his arrival in Washington, Young and the Trae Young Family Foundation immediately made a substantial $100,000 commitment. This generous pledge saw $50,000 directed to both DC CAP and DC Central Kitchen. DC CAP is a vital organization empowering D.C. high school students to pursue and complete higher education, while DC Central Kitchen is renowned for its culinary job training, school meal provisions, and critical hunger relief initiatives throughout the capital.

"Being recognized for this award means so much to me, because the work I do off the court matters just as much as the work I do on the court," shared Young. "I am so thankful to feel the love and support from my two homes: Washington, D.C. and Oklahoma. My goal is to keep showing up for both communities, to create opportunities for them, and to remind them that somebody is in their corner."

Oklahoma Roots: Building a Legacy for Youth Sports

Young's commitment to youth extends deep into Oklahoma, where he continues to foster recreational opportunities. Two years after successfully launching the Young Family Athletic Center in Norman, Young and his foundation announced exciting plans for a second state-of-the-art facility in Yukon. This upcoming complex will mirror the Norman center's impressive 122,000-square-foot model, boasting convertible basketball and volleyball courts, competition pools, and year-round programming designed to engage thousands of young athletes.

The Trae Young Family Foundation has channeled over $4 million into the development and enhancement of recreational and athletic facilities across Oklahoma, cementing his lasting legacy in his home state.

Capital Impact: Birthday Blessings for D.C. Youth

The Wizards guard also connected profoundly with families in the Washington D.C. area through a series of community events coinciding with his birthday. He visited students at Thurgood Marshall High School, Friendship Technology Prep, and Monument Academy, where he engaged in crucial discussions on mental health, the power of perseverance, and navigating life's challenges. A heartwarming surprise visit to pediatric patients at MedStar Georgetown Hospital saw Young spending quality time with families and distributing signed jerseys, bringing smiles to faces.

His three-day community celebration also featured a free Pro-Am Day at Oxon Hill High School, alongside the "From the Point Youth Skills Clinic" hosted at Prince George’s County Community College. Over 175 children eagerly participated in the four-hour clinic, where Young actively joined drills and worked directly with groups, alongside expert coaches from the Jr. Wizards youth basketball program.

The Enduring Spirit of Community Assist

The NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award stands as a powerful tribute to NBA legend and Hall of Famer Bob Lanier. As an NBA League Office executive and NBA Cares Ambassador for over three decades, Lanier profoundly influenced countless individuals globally, championing the values of the game and making a positive difference through his boundless kindness and generosity. Trae Young's recognition ensures that this incredible legacy of community impact continues to thrive through a new generation of NBA stars.
