Man Wei Chong is looking ahead to a new chapter in his career after being paired with Soh Wooi Yik in BAM's major men's doubles reshuffle. The newly formed partnership is expected to play a key role in Malaysia's preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Man Wei Chong has welcomed the opportunity to partner Soh Wooi Yik following the Badminton Association of Malaysia's bold restructuring of its men's doubles department, a move aimed at strengthening the country's medal prospects for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The decision sees several established partnerships split up, including the successful combinations of Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun. While the changes came as a surprise to many within the badminton community, Wei Chong is focused on making the most of his new partnership.

The 25-year-old believes teaming up with Wooi Yik presents a valuable opportunity to grow as a player and learn from one of Malaysia's most accomplished doubles specialists.

Wooi Yik brings significant experience to the partnership, having won the world title in 2022 and secured Olympic bronze medals at both the Tokyo and Paris Games. His achievements and experience at the highest level are expected to play a key role in helping the new pairing develop quickly.

Wei Chong also expressed confidence in the vision of men's doubles coaching director Herry Iman Pierngadi, whose reputation for building successful doubles combinations has earned widespread respect throughout the badminton world.

The Indonesian coach has been tasked with revitalising Malaysia's men's doubles programme, and the latest reshuffle reflects his willingness to make bold decisions in pursuit of long-term success.

Interestingly, Wooi Yik had previously identified Wei Chong as a potential compatible partner due to their similar physical attributes and attacking style of play. Both players possess strong court coverage and an aggressive approach, which could create a unique dynamic on court.

Standing at 1.85m and 1.82m respectively, the pair will form one of the taller men's doubles combinations on the international circuit. Their height and power could provide advantages both at the net and from the back court as they work to establish their partnership.

Before focusing fully on the new collaboration, Wei Chong first had to overcome an injury setback that kept him out of action since the Thomas Cup. Encouragingly, he recently returned to sparring sessions and reported no discomfort during training, suggesting he is close to full fitness.

His recovery comes at an important time as the pair prepare for a busy introduction to the international circuit.

Wei Chong and Wooi Yik are scheduled to make their debut together at the Japan Open in July before continuing their campaign at the China Open, Taiwan Open and Korea Open.

Those tournaments will provide an early indication of the partnership's potential and offer valuable opportunities to build chemistry ahead of a crucial Olympic qualification cycle.

While expectations will naturally be high, both players understand that success will require time and patience. Nevertheless, the new pairing represents one of the most intriguing outcomes of BAM's latest restructuring as Malaysia begins laying the foundation for its Los Angeles 2028 campaign.
