Johann Zarco finds positives in improved pace at Circuit of the Americas, even as he prepares to fight through Q1.

Castrol Honda LCR rider Johann Zarco finished 14th in Friday’s sessions at the Circuit of the Americas, but remained upbeat after showing clear signs of progress.

The Frenchman highlighted improved consistency and confidence on a circuit that has previously proven difficult for him.

“I’m doing better runs on this track than in the past, so that is very positive and we can be pleased,” Zarco said.

Despite the demanding nature of the Austin layout, both rider and team were satisfied with the work completed across the day, believing they are moving in the right direction.

Zarco narrowly missed out on a place in Q2 and will have to go through Q1 on Saturday, where he will aim to secure a stronger grid position for both the Sprint and the main race.

“Such a pity to miss Q2, but I’m happy with the way I managed the Practice this afternoon and with our approach on this tough layout,” he added.

Looking ahead, Zarco remained confident that the team can build on Friday’s performance.

“We’ve got things under control, and I hope that, despite the challenges, we can do a good job in both races.”
