Malaysia made a mixed start at the Hylo Open in Saarbrücken, Germany, with several doubles pairs advancing while others saw their campaigns cut short at the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.
Men's doubles pair Aaron Tai and Yap Roy King continued their impressive form following their Arctic Open title, securing a comfortable 21-11, 21-12 victory over Germany's Malik Bourakkadi and Kenneth Neumann in just 28 minutes.
The Malaysians controlled the match from the outset, allowing their opponents little opportunity to build momentum. Their latest win offers another boost as they look to maintain their strong run on the European circuit.
In women's doubles, Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting also progressed after defeating England's Abbygael Harris and Estelle van Leeuwen 21-12, 21-17 in 35 minutes. The world No. 27 pair will next face Hong Kong's eighth seeds Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam, a tougher test as they aim to reach the later rounds.

However, it was a disappointing outing for Chia Weijie and Teo Ee Yi, who retired from their opening men's doubles match against England's second seeds Ben Lane and Sean Vendy. The Malaysians lost the first game 21-14 and were trailing 11-7 in the second when they withdrew. The reason for their retirement was not immediately clear.
Malaysia's mixed doubles hopes will also rest on independent pair Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing, who arrive in Germany after reaching the French Open final last Sunday. They had also made the semi-finals of the Denmark Open earlier in the European swing.
The pair are scheduled to open their Hylo Open campaign against the Netherlands' Joep Strooper and Sterre Bang. After a demanding run of tournaments, managing their recovery will be important as they look to carry their recent form into another event.
In men's singles, former All England champion Lee Zii Jia is set to face Singapore's Teh Jia Heng in his opening match, while Cheam June Wei will take on India's Kiran George. Both Malaysians will be looking to make progress in a competitive field.
As the final stop of the BWF World Tour's European swing, the Hylo Open provides players with another opportunity to collect ranking points and build momentum towards the end of the season. With several Malaysian pairs already showing promising form, the coming rounds will determine how far the national contingent can go in Saarbrücken.
