Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun climbed to world No. 8 after winning the French Open men’s doubles title, while several Malaysian pairs also made progress in the latest BWF rankings. Christo Popov, meanwhile, made history as the first Frenchman to reach world No. 1 in men’s singles.

Malaysia’s Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun have climbed three places to world No. 8 in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings following their French Open men’s doubles triumph in Paris.

The Malaysians sealed the title by defeating compatriots Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in the final, marking a significant boost for the pair after a challenging period affected by Wei Chong’s knee injury and changes in their partnership.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin, despite missing out on the title, retained their world No. 5 position. Olympic medallists Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik also remained fourth in the rankings, keeping three Malaysian pairs inside the men’s doubles top 10.

There was further progress for Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King, who climbed 21 places from No. 95 to No. 74, reflecting the potential of the developing partnership.

In mixed doubles, French Open runners-up Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing made one of the week's biggest gains, rising seven places to world No. 24. Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin also moved up the rankings, climbing into the top 40 at No. 36.

However, experienced pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai slipped one place to world No. 11 after an early exit at the French Open, narrowly missing out on a place in the top 10.

Malaysia’s women’s doubles representatives Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah remained at world No. 5 despite finishing runners-up in Paris. Their latest result followed a successful European campaign that included the Denmark Open title before their run ended in the French Open final.

There was little movement among Malaysia’s leading singles players. Leong Jun Hao remained the country’s highest-ranked men’s singles player at No. 32, followed by Lee Zii Jia at No. 42 and Justin Hoh at No. 46.

In women’s singles, K. Letshanaa stayed at No. 27, with Wong Ling Ching at No. 40 and Goh Jin Wei at No. 56.

Beyond Malaysia, France celebrated a historic achievement as Christo Popov rose to the top of the men’s singles rankings following his French Open success. He became the first French player to reach world No. 1 in men’s singles, marking a major milestone for the host nation.

The latest rankings provide a boost for Malaysia’s doubles squads, particularly Wei Chong-Kai Wun, whose French Open victory has strengthened their position among the world’s leading pairs. With several partnerships moving up the rankings, the results also offer encouragement as the Malaysian contingent continues its push for greater consistency on the international circuit.
