Francesco Bagnaia has successfully undergone surgery on his right forearm and is aiming to return for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone when the MotoGP season resumes after the summer break.
Ducati confirmed the procedure was carried out on Wednesday at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the University Hospital in Modena. The operation, an endoscopic fasciotomy, was completed without complications by a medical team led by Professor Luigi Tarallo.
Although Ducati did not disclose the exact reason for the surgery, the procedure is understood to have been performed to treat compartment syndrome, commonly known as arm pump, a condition that frequently affects MotoGP riders because of the intense physical demands of racing.
Bagnaia will now use the three-week summer break to focus on rehabilitation, with Ducati targeting a return for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Aug. 7 to 9. His participation will depend on how his recovery progresses over the coming weeks.
In a statement, Ducati confirmed the surgery had been successful and said the factory rider would immediately begin his planned recovery programme before undergoing further assessments ahead of the next race weekend.
The operation comes during an important period for the Italian, who attended an event in Rome a day earlier after being named a sporting ambassador by Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs alongside several other leading Italian motorcycle racers.
Bagnaia will hope the procedure helps him return in stronger physical condition for the second half of the season as he looks to regain momentum in Ducati's championship campaign.
