After a demanding first half of the Formula 1 season, Carlos Sainz is looking forward to something much simpler: quality time with family, a little island hopping, and staying race-ready before the championship resumes.

Family Time Takes Priority
Although the Hungarian Grand Prix ended in disappointment for the Williams driver, Sainz is already focused on making the most of the summer shutdown before returning refreshed for the Dutch Grand Prix.
Speaking on The Fast And The Curious podcast, Sainz revealed that returning to the Balearic Islands has become a cherished annual tradition. The Spaniard explained that his parents spend the summer in Mallorca, where the entire family gathers for several weeks each year.
"I normally spend my summer in the Balearic Islands," Sainz said. "I'll spend most of my time in Mallorca. Mallorca is where my parents' home is for the summer. My whole family goes there for almost a month. They install themselves there, and I get to go there for a couple of weeks and just hang out with the people that I love."
Balancing Rest and Preparation
While the summer shutdown provides drivers with a rare opportunity to disconnect from the relentless Formula 1 schedule, Sainz isn't planning to switch off completely.
Instead, he'll continue training alongside close friends before heading back to competition. "Sometimes my group of friends come towards the end, and we do a bit of a training camp before I fly to Zandvoort," he explained.
Sainz also enjoys travelling between Ibiza and Menorca by boat, visiting friends across the islands—something he says has been part of his life for nearly three decades.
Williams Looking to Bounce Back
The 2026 campaign has been challenging for both Sainz and Williams. The Spaniard currently sits 15th in the drivers' standings with six points, just ahead of teammate Alex Albon, while Williams dropped to ninth in the constructors' championship following the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Sainz's race at the Hungaroring was further compromised after contact with Oscar Piastri while being lapped, resulting in a five-second penalty before he eventually crossed the line in 18th place.
Eyes on a Stronger Second Half
Despite the difficult start to the season, there is optimism at Williams. The Grove-based outfit is expected to introduce a significant upgrade package around the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, giving the team renewed hope of climbing the standings during the final stretch of the campaign.
For now, however, Sainz's priority is to recharge both physically and mentally before Formula 1 returns with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where Williams will aim to kick off the second half of the season on a stronger note.
