Diogo Moreira made a solid start to his Aragon Grand Prix weekend, finishing 11th on Friday and narrowly missing out on direct entry to Q2.
The Pro Honda LCR rider, who enjoys the Aragon circuit, showed competitive pace throughout the opening day but was unable to secure a top-10 spot. Moreira admitted a mistake while pushing for a place in Q2 ultimately cost him the chance to advance directly to the second qualifying session.
“It’s been a positive day. I was there. I made a mistake that cost me Q2, but in any case, we worked well,” Moreira said.
Grip remained the biggest challenge for the Brazilian throughout the day. Despite struggling for traction, he was encouraged by the progress made with the bike and believes there is still more performance to unlock.
“As for tomorrow, the bike is ready and I’m happy with it. The main problem here is the grip, it’s all about the grip,” he explained.
Moreira also identified improvements he can make on corner entry as he prepares for Saturday. The team is already working on different solutions to help him extract more from the bike.
“I could improve on the entry, and we are working on different solutions, which is good,” he said.
With Friday’s result putting him 11th overall, Moreira will now have to go through Q1 to fight for a place in Q2 during Saturday’s qualifying session.
Despite the setback, the rookie remains confident that he and the LCR team can make further progress.
“We will try to do our maximum tomorrow. Let’s see!” Moreira said.
