Iga Swiatek says she is prioritising enjoyment and mental balance as she builds into the clay-court season, working closely with coach Francisco Roig on staying focused and disciplined on court.

Iga Swiatek is approaching the clay season with a renewed focus on balance, saying that enjoying her tennis is now just as important as results as she continues her build-up on the surface.

The former world No. 1 has been working with new coach Francisco Roig as she refines her game on clay, a surface where she has traditionally been dominant. Their partnership is still in its early stages, but Swiatek says she is already trying to absorb a more structured and disciplined approach.

On court, Swiatek has been working on simplifying her decision-making and staying consistent during matches, particularly in high-pressure moments where her level has fluctuated in recent months.

This season, she has placed greater emphasis on playing with clarity rather than overthinking situations, a shift she believes is key to regaining her strongest form.

“I want to be disciplined on court and make the right choices, not the ones that sometimes pop into my head, but to stay solid,” Swiatek has said in recent reflections on her form.

She also stressed that her mindset this year is focused on staying relaxed and not overloading herself with expectations during the demanding clay swing, which includes key tournaments leading into Roland Garros at French Open.

“I just want to enjoy being on tour and not put too much baggage on my shoulders,” she added, highlighting her effort to stay mentally fresh across a long season.

Swiatek’s approach comes as she continues to adapt under Roig’s guidance, with both player and coach still fine-tuning tactical details ahead of the biggest clay events of the year.

While expectations remain high given her past success on the surface, Swiatek’s focus is currently on stability, enjoyment and gradual improvement rather than immediate dominance.
