The future of Indian pickleball just got a boost, with a new partnership set to create more opportunities for local players to compete internationally. Dinkers Pickleball Academy and D-Joy Sports Academy have joined forces to bring high-performance coaching, international tournaments, and athlete exchange programmes to India, with several initiatives expected to begin in 2027.
Key Points:
- Dinkers Pickleball Academy and D-Joy Sports Academy have formed a strategic partnership to develop Indian pickleball talent.
- American pickleball legend Kyle Yates will work with Dinkers Head Coach Dhiren Patel to deliver specialised training.
- Training modules will focus on transition-zone resets, advanced dinking strategies, and third-shot drops.
- The partnership will bring D-Joy Tour events to India from 2027, alongside international tournaments and player exchange opportunities.
A Game-Changer for Indian Talent
The partnership aims to bridge the gap between India's growing domestic pickleball scene and the competitive demands of international circuits such as the PPA Tour and Asian Pickleball Tours. By providing access to advanced coaching and international competition, the collaboration seeks to equip Indian players with the technical and tactical skills needed to compete at a higher level.
Bridging the Global Skill Divide
While Indian players possess natural reflexes, speed, and a strong competitive drive, access to international-level coaching and exposure remains an important area for development. The partnership aims to address these gaps through specialised training programmes and opportunities to compete against stronger opposition.
Elite Coaching on Home Soil
At the heart of the initiative, Dinkers Pickleball Academy Head Coach Dhiren Patel will work alongside Kyle Yates, an American pickleball legend and Hall of Famer who serves as Head Coach of D-Joy Sports Academy.
Together, they will design and deliver specialised training modules for competitive Indian players, focusing on key techniques such as transition-zone resets, advanced dinking strategies, and third-shot drops under Yates' international coaching framework.
The Masterminds Behind the Partnership
Patel said Indian players possess exceptional natural reflexes, speed, and a strong desire to win. He added that the collaboration is “built to place Indian athletes consistently on international podiums.”
Yates also described India as “one of the most exciting, high-potential pickleball markets in the world,” while praising Dinkers for building “an incredible foundation.” The partnership reflects a shared ambition to help Indian players develop their skills and become more competitive on the international stage.
Paving the Road to International Competition
Beyond coaching, the partnership will cover several initiatives designed to strengthen India's pickleball ecosystem. These include masterclasses led by Yates and visiting international professionals, an annual visit by Yates to Dinkers, and coaching camps to help grassroots and academy trainers improve their skills.
The collaboration will also introduce two legs of the D-Joy Tour in India from 2027, giving local players opportunities to compete at a higher level on home soil. Other plans include a bilateral tournament series between India and Vietnam, as well as player exchange programmes that will allow top-ranked Indian athletes to train at D-Joy's international facilities.
What's Next for Indian Pickleball?
The partnership's progress will become clearer as the planned initiatives take shape, particularly when the first D-Joy Tour events arrive in India in 2027.
If successfully implemented, the collaboration could give Indian players greater access to international coaching, stronger competition, and valuable development opportunities without always having to travel abroad. It marks a significant step towards helping India's growing pickleball community close the gap with established international competitors.
