Joan Mir will miss the next two rounds of the MotoGP season after Honda confirmed that the 2020 world champion has been advised to take further time away from racing while doctors investigate ongoing health problems.
Mir will sit out the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi from October 2 to 4 and the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika from October 9 to 11. The Honda rider has been undergoing medical examinations in Barcelona after struggling with his health during the San Marino Grand Prix.
The Spaniard was forced to retire from the Misano race on September 13 after just five laps and subsequently missed the Austrian Grand Prix. He travelled to the Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona for further tests, with doctors looking into a series of symptoms that have affected his energy and performance for several months.
Honda said recent tests remain inconclusive, with the cause of Mir's condition still unconfirmed. MotoGP Medical Director Dr Angel Charte has advised the rider to undergo strict rest and rehabilitation for the next 15 days while further examinations are carried out.

"Joan Mir has been experiencing a variety of symptoms impacting his energy and performance for several months with a recent increase in severity," Charte said. "The cause is still unconfirmed at this time."
Mir's absence creates another vacancy in Honda's factory lineup for the upcoming Asian rounds. Takaaki Nakagami replaced him at the Austrian Grand Prix, but the Japanese rider is already scheduled to compete at Motegi as an HRC test team wildcard. Honda has yet to confirm who will replace Mir for the upcoming races.
The situation also adds uncertainty to the closing chapter of Mir's Honda career. The Spaniard is set to leave the factory team at the end of the 2026 season and join Gresini Racing with Ducati for 2027.
For now, however, Mir's return date remains unclear. Honda has said his condition will be reassessed following further medical tests, with the priority on understanding the cause of his symptoms and allowing him to recover before returning to competition.
