Karolina Muchova produced one of the performances of the tournament to defeat Coco Gauff in a gripping Wimbledon semifinal, battling back to win 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(10) and secure her first appearance in a Wimbledon final.
The Czech looked in complete control after racing through the opening set with her trademark variety and aggressive shot-making. Gauff, however, responded emphatically in the second, raising her intensity and forcing a deciding set as the momentum swung dramatically in her favour.
Neither player could find a decisive breakthrough in the final set, sending the match into a tense tie-break that became a test of composure as much as skill. Gauff moved within a point of victory and held a match point, but Muchova refused to surrender, producing fearless winners and clutch serving to stay alive.
After more than two and a half hours of high-quality tennis, Muchova finally sealed victory on her fifth match point, completing one of the most dramatic comebacks of this year's Championships.
"It was an unbelievable match," Muchova said afterwards. "I just kept believing, even when I was facing match point. I tried to stay brave and play my game."
The victory sets up a landmark all-Czech Wimbledon final against Linda Noskova, who earlier defeated Marta Kostyuk in straight sets to reach her first Grand Slam final. It will be the first all-Czech women's singles final at Wimbledon in the Open Era and guarantees the Czech Republic another Grand Slam champion.
For Gauff, the defeat ends an impressive Wimbledon campaign, while Muchova moves one win away from capturing the first Grand Slam title of her career after overcoming both a formidable opponent and immense pressure on Centre Court.
