Valentin Vacherot made a winning return from injury on Wednesday, overcoming Germany's Yannick Hanfmann 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open Gstaad.
Playing his first ATP Tour match since recovering from injury, the 27-year-old from Monaco showed little sign of rust after dropping the opening set. He gradually settled into the contest, raising his level in the second and third sets to complete the comeback victory on the Swiss clay.
The win marks another milestone in what has already been a breakthrough season for Vacherot, who has climbed to a career-high ranking after several impressive performances on the ATP Tour in 2026. His latest victory also secures his first quarter-final appearance in Gstaad.
Vacherot credited his team for helping him return quickly after injury and admitted there had been uncertainty over how he would perform in his first match back.
"It was not easy after being away, but I'm very happy with how I fought and stayed mentally strong," he said after the match.
Awaiting him in the quarter-finals is Belgium's Raphael Collignon, with both players chasing a place in the semi-finals of the ATP 250 tournament.
Vacherot's comeback victory continues his impressive rise this season and provides another confidence boost as he looks to build momentum during the European clay-court swing.
