Lee Zii Jia’s strong Thomas Cup showing has reignited hopes of a comeback, as he enters the Thailand Open qualifiers aiming to build momentum toward a return to top form.

Lee Zii Jia’s recent performances at the Thomas Cup have sparked renewed optimism about his return to top form, with signs of a player rediscovering rhythm and confidence on court.

The Malaysian star went unbeaten during the team event in Horsens, Denmark, producing a standout win over Japan’s world No. 21 Koki Watanabe. His display drew praise from former international Ong Ewe Hock, who noted that Zii Jia looked sharper, more focused and physically refreshed. Importantly, he completed the tournament without injury, strengthening hopes that he is ready for a sustained run on the World Tour.

Attention now shifts to the Thailand Open in Bangkok, where Zii Jia has gained entry from the reserve list and will start in the qualifying rounds. He opens his campaign against India’s world No. 294 Manav Chopra, with a potential second qualifying match against either Muhamad Yusuf of Indonesia or Taiwan’s Liao Jhuo Fu for a place in the main draw.

Another Malaysian contender, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin (world No. 51), is also in qualifying and will face Taiwan’s Ting Yen Chen in his opening match.

In the women’s draw, independent Malaysian shuttler Goh Jin Wei has secured a place in the main draw as she continues her push back towards the top 30 rankings. Ranked world No. 54, she will face a qualifier in the first round, with a potential last-16 clash against home favourite and world No. 8 Pornpawee Chochuwong if she progresses.

Elsewhere, several Malaysian players including Justin Hoh, K. Letshanaa, and Wong Ling Ching have opted to skip the Thailand Open to focus on preparation for the upcoming Malaysia Masters.

With Zii Jia’s form trending upward and multiple Malaysians in action across both qualifying and main draws, the Thailand Open offers an important early test of momentum ahead of a packed badminton season.
