A Malaysian-developed artificial intelligence system designed to settle disputed badminton line calls has made its international debut, marking an important milestone for the country’s sports technology industry.
Known as Reveal Lens, the AI-powered Instant Review System was used at the Singapore International Challenge 2026 from August 18 to 23. The tournament marked the first time the technology was deployed outside Malaysia.
Developed by Malaysian company Revealtek Sdn Bhd, Reveal Lens has been approved by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and is designed to provide quick video reviews when players challenge disputed line calls.
The system was initially introduced and tested at domestic competitions in Malaysia before taking its next major step onto the international stage. Its debut in Singapore gives the technology an opportunity to demonstrate its reliability in a competitive tournament involving international players.
Reveal Lens is currently among a small group of Instant Review Systems approved by the BWF, highlighting the progress made by Malaysian developers in an area traditionally dominated by established international sports technology providers.
The technology could also make video review more accessible across different levels of badminton. Traditional review systems can require significant equipment and resources, making them more difficult to implement at smaller tournaments. Reveal Lens was developed with the aim of offering a more accessible solution while still providing officials with reliable footage to review disputed calls.
Its international debut comes after the system was used extensively in Malaysian tournaments, including the AFFIN 100PLUS Junior Elite Tour Finals 2026. The technology was deployed throughout the six-day junior tournament, giving organisers and officials further experience with the system before its move onto the international circuit.
The Singapore tournament could be an important turning point for Reveal Lens as interest in the technology continues to grow beyond Malaysia. Following its international debut, organisers and badminton associations in Vietnam and Indonesia have reportedly expressed interest in using the system, while discussions are also ongoing with continental badminton bodies about potential adoption.
For Malaysia, the development represents more than simply an advancement in badminton officiating. It highlights the country's growing ability to combine artificial intelligence with sports technology to solve practical problems on the court.
As badminton continues to embrace technology, systems such as Reveal Lens could play an increasingly important role in improving the accuracy and speed of officiating.
