Marc Marquez is not expecting Jorge Martin's wrist injury to make the Aprilia rider an easy opponent at the Malaysian Grand Prix, despite the Spaniard's recent crash at Phillip Island.
Martin fractured his right wrist in a crash during the Australian GP sprint race but has since received medical clearance to compete at Sepang. Marquez believes that if medical officials have declared his rival fit to race, he should still be capable of delivering a strong performance.
"I believe with the new protocols we have after my injury at Jerez [in 2020], if they declare him fit, it means that he's able to ride," Marquez said.
The six-time premier-class champion also suggested that the intensity of competition could help Martin manage the pain.
"And if he's able to ride, he will be at a very high level because adrenaline is the best painkiller," he added.

Martin's injury comes at a crucial stage of the championship after his crash at Phillip Island allowed Marquez to take a 10-point lead in the standings. The Aprilia rider had been involved in a close battle with Marquez before losing control, adding to the pressure as the title fight enters its final stages.
A similar mistake at the Indonesian Grand Prix, where Martin crashed while attempting to regain the lead, had also affected his championship campaign.
Despite the recent setbacks, Marquez is pleased that Martin will be able to compete in Malaysia, saying his rival's presence is "better for the show".
With Martin back on the grid, the Malaysian GP could prove important in the championship battle. However, how much his wrist injury affects his performance remains to be seen as he faces the physical demands of the Sepang circuit.
