Marc Márquez has been nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, marking another major milestone in the MotoGP champion’s remarkable return to the top of world motorsport. The nomination follows an outstanding 2025 season in which the Spanish rider reclaimed the MotoGP crown and reasserted himself as one of the sport’s most dominant figures.
The Laureus World Sports Awards, widely regarded as one of the highest honours in global sport, recognise outstanding athletic achievements across multiple disciplines each year.

Márquez secured his seventh premier class world championship in 2025 after delivering an impressive campaign that included 11 Grand Prix victories and 14 Sprint wins from 17 race starts. He accumulated 545 points during the season and wrapped up the title despite missing the final five rounds due to injury.
The achievement was particularly significant given the challenges Márquez faced in recent years. A series of injuries beginning in 2020 disrupted his career and raised doubts about whether he could return to championship-winning form. His 2025 success, which came during his first season riding a Ducati after leaving Honda, confirmed one of the most notable comebacks in MotoGP history.
For the 2026 Laureus Awards, Márquez joins an elite list of nominees that includes tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, Olympic pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis, Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar, and footballer Ousmane Dembélé.
This is not the first time Márquez has received recognition from the Laureus Awards. Earlier in his career, he won the Breakthrough of the Year award after his sensational rookie MotoGP title in 2013 and has since received several additional nominations.
The winners of the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards will be announced during the ceremony in April, where Márquez will compete with some of the world’s most accomplished athletes for one of sport’s most prestigious individual honours.
