KUALA LUMPUR: Pearly Tan–M Thinaah arrived at the Denmark Open without a specific target. Now, they are only one win away from the women's doubles title.

Malaysia's badminton faithful are on the edge of their seats as Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah stand just one victory away from a historic Denmark Open women's doubles title!

Their incredible journey, marked by an unexpected run, has captivated fans and proven their mettle on the international stage.

Key Points:

  • Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah have reached the Denmark Open women's doubles final.
  • They are the first Malaysian women's doubles pair in 18 years to achieve this feat.
  • The duo secured their spot by defeating China's Bao Li Jing and Cao Zi Han.
  • Their success is attributed to a focus on enjoyment, communication, and emotional control.

Historic Run: Pearly-Thinaah Shatter 18-Year Wait

Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah delivered a masterful performance in Saturday's semi-final at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense. They dispatched China's Bao Li Jing and Cao Zi Han in straight sets, a dominant 21-16, 21-14 victory.

This triumph isn't just another win; it marks a monumental milestone for Malaysian badminton. They are the first Malaysian women's doubles pair to reach the Denmark Open final in 18 years, a feat last accomplished by the legendary Chin Eei Hui and Wong Pei Tty, who lifted the trophy in 2008.

Unburdened Brilliance: A Mindset for Success

Speaking after their semi-final win, Thinaah revealed a surprising strategy: no specific targets. The pair arrived at the Denmark Open aiming simply to enjoy their game and execute what they'd honed in training, especially after a quick turnaround from the Asian Games.

"To be honest, we just wanted to enjoy the matches here at the Denmark Open," Thinaah explained. "We wanted to give our best. We did well in training, so we wanted to apply that in the tournament here."

Communication is King: Navigating Tough Moments

Beyond individual skill, Thinaah highlighted the critical role of their on-court dialogue. Their ability to communicate effectively, particularly when momentum wavered, proved instrumental in turning challenging situations around.

"The most important thing I'm happy about is the communication we had, especially when things weren't going smoothly," she affirmed. "We managed to pick that up quickly and turn it back around. That was one of the crucial things we were focusing on, so that's something I'm happy about."

Pearly's Poise: Mastering Emotions Under Pressure

Her partner, Pearly Tan, echoed the sentiment of self-focus and mental fortitude. Facing unfamiliar opponents often presents unique challenges, but Pearly emphasized the importance of controlling their own game and emotions rather than fixating on their rivals.

"We cannot control how our opponents play, but we can control our emotions and our gameplay on court," Pearly stated. "We always try to stay alert to our own gameplay and emotions. That's important against every opponent."

The Final Frontier: One Step from Denmark Open Glory

Despite their satisfaction, Thinaah acknowledged that the job isn't done. The duo will meticulously review their performance and make necessary adjustments for Sunday's colossal title decider.

"Overall, we're happy, but there are still things we need to take note of and be alert to for the next game," she added. The final will see Pearly-Thinaah face either Japan's Hinata Suzuki–Nao Yamakita or Sumire Nakade–Miyu Takahashi, as they push for a fairytale ending at the Denmark Open.
