Pedro Acosta continued his impressive rookie campaign by setting the fastest time during Monday’s rain-affected MotoGP test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The KTM rider clocked a best lap of 1min 38.767sec to lead the final in-season test session, underlining both his speed and growing influence within the manufacturer’s development programme.
KTM enjoyed a strong overall showing, with Enea Bastianini and Maverick Viñales finishing third and fourth respectively as the Austrian manufacturer continued gathering important data ahead of the next phase of the season.
Rain interrupted portions of the session, limiting track time for several teams, but Acosta’s pace once again stood out after another eventful weekend in Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo delivered an encouraging performance for Yamaha by ending the day just 0.064 seconds behind Acosta in second place.
The French rider also tested updated aerodynamic components on the Yamaha M1, including a revised front wing package as the Japanese manufacturer searches for improved performance and stability.
The test proved far less productive for Jorge Martin, whose difficult Catalan Grand Prix weekend continued after another heavy crash at Turn 7 brought out an early red flag.
Although medical examinations later confirmed no fractures, the Aprilia rider’s latest accident marked his sixth crash in three days, forcing him to end the session early. Martin eventually finished 17th on the timesheets.
Several leading riders were absent from the test following injuries sustained during Sunday’s dramatic Grand Prix.
Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco remained sidelined while recovering from fractures and ligament injuries, while Catalan Grand Prix winner Fabio Di Giannantonio skipped the session due to a left hand injury.
Reigning world champion Marc Marquez was also absent as he continues recovering from surgery following injuries suffered earlier in the season.
Factory Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia returned to action despite still experiencing neck pain and dizziness following his heavy crash during Sunday’s race. The Italian finished the day inside the top 10.
Attention now gradually shifts toward MotoGP’s future development plans, with manufacturers preparing for upcoming tyre tests linked to the incoming 2027 regulations and the next generation of 850cc machines.
