Arthur Fils and Rafael Jodar were forced to put their National Bank Open quarter-final on hold again after rain interrupted their match in Montreal, leaving their battle for a semi-final place unresolved.
The contest between the 18th-seeded Fils and 20th-seeded Jodar had already been postponed from Monday because of poor weather. When play finally resumed at IGA Stadium, another rain delay halted the action with Jodar leading 5-4 in the opening set.
Play eventually restarted shortly after 4pm local time, with both players facing the challenge of returning to the match after another interruption.
Jodar had made the stronger start and appeared close to taking control of the set. The Spaniard had three break-point opportunities at 4-1 but failed to convert any of them, missing the chance to establish a double-break advantage.
Fils then fought his way back into the contest and was serving at 30-0 in the 10th game when the rain arrived. The interruption gave the Frenchman another chance to regroup before the quarter-final resumed.
Waiting in the semi-finals is Brandon Nakashima, who booked his place with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 victory over 19th seed Luciano Darderi.
The 28th-seeded American produced a composed performance to reach the last four without dropping a set, securing his first appearance in an ATP Masters 1000 semi-final.
Nakashima will now face either Fils or Jodar for a place in the final, with both young contenders still needing to overcome the weather as well as each other to keep their Montreal title hopes alive.
