Serena Williams' comeback plans have received a boost after the American confirmed Karolina Muchova as her doubles partner for next week's Berlin Open. The partnership comes after an injury to Victoria Mboko disrupted Williams' return at Queen's Club, while speculation continues to grow over a possible Wimbledon appearance.

Serena Williams has quickly adjusted her comeback plans by teaming up with Karolina Muchova for the Berlin Open, ensuring her return to professional tennis remains firmly on track ahead of Wimbledon.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion is continuing her gradual return to competition after nearly four years away from the sport. Berlin will mark the second stop of her comeback, following her appearance at Queen's Club in London.

Williams had originally planned to build momentum alongside Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko. However, those plans were disrupted when Mboko suffered a knee injury during singles action at Queen's, casting doubt over their partnership and forcing Williams to explore alternative options for Berlin.

The American has now turned to Karolina Muchova, one of the most respected players on the WTA Tour. While Muchova is best known for her singles achievements, including deep runs at Grand Slam events and a recent title-winning campaign in Doha, her experience and versatility make her an attractive partner as Williams continues to work her way back into competitive tennis.

The decision has also reignited discussion about Williams' long-term intentions. Although the 44-year-old has repeatedly insisted that her comeback is focused on enjoying the sport and competing in front of her daughters rather than chasing trophies, her choice of high-calibre partners suggests she remains serious about performing at a high level.

Questions also remain over whether her return will eventually extend beyond doubles. Williams has not committed to a singles comeback and has previously indicated that she still requires additional training before considering that possibility. Nevertheless, each addition to her grass-court schedule continues to fuel speculation that Wimbledon could become part of her plans.

Berlin represents another important step in that journey. The tournament is one of the leading Wimbledon warm-up events and will provide Williams with valuable match practice against a field packed with many of the world's top players.

Whether or not a Wimbledon appearance ultimately materialises, Williams' decision to continue adding events to her schedule demonstrates that her comeback is gathering momentum. With Muchova now by her side, one of tennis' most iconic figures will once again be among the biggest attractions of the grass-court season.
