Sibu Amateur Athletes Association chairman Dr Hii Sui Cheng said proper planning was important as pickleball gained popularity.

“While pickleball offers health, social, and recreational benefits, these should not come at the expense of others’ well-being,” said Dr Cheng. “By ensuring suitable locations, reasonable operating hours, and open dialogue with the community, we can encourage the growth of the sport while maintaining harmony and quality of life for all.”

This reminder follows multiple reports of residents complaining about what they describe as the disruptive noise of pickleball.

“According to media reports, residents in Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, have raised concerns about the sharp ‘pop-pop’ sound of pickleball paddles when courts are located directly in front of their homes,” he said. “In Ho Chi Minh City, the noise has reportedly frustrated residents, with games continuing until midnight. Some have endured sleepless nights, while others found the situation unbearable and chose to relocate.”

Dr Cheng, one of the sponsors of the Pickleball Fun Tournament 2026, organised by the Sibu Great United Club and Sunnyou Sibu Pickleball Club, concluded by encouraging everyone to enjoy and promote the sport, while remaining considerate of community needs.

In the tournament results, Simon Ling and Thomas Goh won gold after defeating Andy Lau and Alex Lee in straight sets—11-7, 11-9. Ling and Goh each received RM150 and a medal, while Lau and Lee took home RM100 and a medal each. Kelvin Ting and Mervyn Ting claimed bronze after beating Franco Ling and Nancy Lee, 21-16.
