Jannik Sinner’s impressive run of form continued at the Italian Open after the world No. 1 defeated Andrey Rublev in straight sets to book his place in the semifinals and break another major record.
The Italian produced another composed display to beat Rublev 6-2, 6-4 in just 91 minutes, extending his winning streak to 27 matches on the ATP Tour.
More importantly, the victory marked Sinner’s 32nd consecutive win at Masters 1000 level, surpassing Novak Djokovic’s previous record of 31 straight wins set in 2011.
Sinner’s historic streak includes titles in Paris at the end of last season, followed by triumphs at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid this year. His consistency across multiple surfaces has further highlighted his dominance during the current campaign.
The 23-year-old has also been remarkably efficient throughout the streak, losing only two sets across his last 32 Masters 1000 matches.
Despite Rublev previously defeating him when he was world No. 1, Sinner controlled the quarterfinal from the start. He secured an early break in both sets and rarely allowed the Russian opportunities to shift momentum.
After the match, Sinner downplayed the significance of the records, insisting his focus remains on improving and preparing for the next challenge rather than chasing milestones.
Sinner will next face either Daniil Medvedev or Spain’s Martin Landaluce in the semifinals as he continues his pursuit of another Masters 1000 title and further strengthens his position at the top of men’s tennis.
