Malaysia’s home hopes remain alive at the Malaysia Super 100 as Kang Khai Xing-Lok Hong Quan, Dania Sofea-Tan Zhing Hui and Liew Xun-Nicole Tan advance to the quarter-finals in Iskandar Puteri.

Three Malaysian pairs booked their places in the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Super 100 in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, giving the home crowd more reasons to cheer as the tournament progresses.

Men’s doubles combination Kang Khai Xing and Lok Hong Quan led the way with a 21-17, 21-19 victory over Japan’s Takuto Goto and Tsubasa Yoshida. The win was an encouraging result for the newly formed partnership, which is being tested by national men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi.

The Malaysian pair showed good coordination and composure to overcome their Japanese opponents in straight games, offering promising signs as they continue to build their partnership.

In women’s doubles, Dania Sofea and Tan Zhing Hui produced one of the notable results of the day by defeating India’s Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra 21-15, 24-22. The Malaysians held their nerve in a tight second game to seal their place in the last eight.

Mixed doubles pair Liew Xun and Nicole Tan also progressed after overcoming fellow Malaysians Wee Yee Hern and Vannee Gobi. Liew and Nicole secured a 21-17, 21-13 win to complete the trio of Malaysian pairs advancing to the quarter-finals.

However, the tournament brought disappointment in the men’s singles, where national player Justin Hoh was eliminated by Indonesia’s Richie Duta Richardo, who won 21-10, 21-18. Aidil Sholeh also exited the competition.

With three pairs still in contention, Malaysia will look to build on their progress and make the most of home advantage as they continue their campaigns in Iskandar Puteri.
