Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young is edging closer to a return from a knee injury after being upgraded to questionable for Thursday night’s matchup against the Charlotte Hornets.
Young was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, marking his second on-court session since scrimmaging with the College Park Skyhawks, Atlanta’s G League affiliate, earlier in the week. He has been sidelined since suffering a right MCL sprain during a win over the Brooklyn Nets on Oct. 29.
“It’s my knee, something that just needed a little more time,” Young said following Wednesday’s practice in Atlanta. “I feel good. Conditioning improves as you play, and they wouldn’t have let me get this close if it wasn’t where it needed to be.”
Despite missing 22 consecutive games, the Hawks have remained competitive, compiling a 15–12 record while navigating multiple injuries throughout the past month. During his absence, Young said he closely observed how the team succeeded, and where he can help elevate them upon his return.
“There are things our team is doing really well that I want to keep empowering,” Young said. “And then there are moments when it gets tough, and I want to make it easier for my teammates.”
The reigning NBA assists leader emphasized his team-first mindset, viewing himself as a complementary piece rather than the sole solution.
“I’ve always felt like I’m just one part of the puzzle,” Young added. “I’m coming back to fit in and help however I can.”
This season, Young is averaging 17.8 points and 7.8 assists.
