Ai Ogura's MotoGP championship hopes have suffered a major setback after the Trackhouse Racing rider was ruled out of this weekend's Aragon Grand Prix with a fractured left hand.
Ogura, who sits third in the championship standings, suffered the injury during a training session in Japan as he prepared for the return of MotoGP following the summer break.
The Japanese rider had returned home to train near his family and spend time riding production motorcycles and fishing. However, a crash at a circuit near Tokyo resulted in a fracture around his left thumb, forcing him to undergo surgery and withdraw from the Aragon round.
The timing could hardly be worse for Ogura, who had already lost valuable ground after crashing at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. His latest injury now threatens to further damage his championship campaign at a crucial stage of the season.

Trackhouse moved quickly to find a replacement, with Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori set to take Ogura's place at MotorLand Aragon. Savadori, who will race with number 32, brings plenty of experience to the team but will face the difficult task of stepping into a MotoGP weekend at short notice.
The bigger concern, however, is what Ogura's absence means for the championship.
Ogura currently trails championship leader Jorge Martin by 37 points, meaning he could lose further ground by missing an entire race weekend. With the title fight becoming increasingly competitive, even a single round without scoring can have a significant impact on the standings.
The Trackhouse rider had emerged as one of the leading contenders this season, making his latest setback particularly frustrating. His challenge now will be to recover fully and return to the grid as soon as possible without compromising his long-term fitness.
