Francesco Bagnaia believes his podium finish at Mugello could mark the start of a resurgence after months of struggles, with the Ducati rider confident recent progress will help him challenge for victories again.

Francesco Bagnaia believes his podium finish at the Italian Grand Prix could be the breakthrough moment he has been searching for after a difficult start to the MotoGP season.

The Ducati rider produced one of his strongest performances of the year at Mugello, charging from sixth on the grid to lead the early stages of the race before eventually securing third place behind Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin.

While Bagnaia has stood on the podium before this season, his result at Mugello represented his first genuine top-three finish in a full-length Sunday race based purely on race pace and performance.

More importantly, it provided confirmation that Ducati's ongoing efforts to improve the bike's behaviour are beginning to deliver results.

Since the start of the 2025 campaign, Bagnaia has repeatedly spoken about difficulties adapting to changes in the Ducati package. Although the bike remains competitive, he has often felt unable to ride with the same confidence and natural feeling that helped him become one of MotoGP's leading riders.

According to Bagnaia, the team has been working steadily to adjust the motorcycle's balance and characteristics to better suit his riding style.

One of the biggest issues has been rear grip, an area where he believes Ducati has struggled compared with some of its rivals and even other Ducati riders. The lack of grip has affected corner entry and overall confidence, making it harder for him to consistently fight at the front.

At Mugello, however, there were clear signs of improvement.

Bagnaia was competitive throughout the weekend and looked capable of challenging for victory during the opening stages of the race before settling for a valuable podium finish.

The Italian described the result as a possible starting point for the remainder of the season and expressed confidence that further progress can be made in the coming rounds.

He pointed to upcoming circuits such as Balaton Park, Brno and Assen as venues that could better suit both his riding style and the current strengths of the Ducati package due to their grip characteristics.

Bagnaia remains convinced that if Ducati continues on its current development path, he can return to fighting regularly for race wins.

After months of searching for answers, Mugello may not have delivered victory, but it offered something nearly as important: renewed belief that both rider and team are moving in the right direction.

With momentum finally building, Bagnaia heads into the next phase of the championship hopeful that his challenge at the front is only just beginning.
