Fabio Di Giannantonio produced a standout performance at the Catalunya MotoGP Grand Prix, fighting through pain from a hand injury to secure a dramatic victory and end a long wait for VR46 Racing Team.
The Italian rider’s race was far from straightforward. He was initially struck by debris during a serious collision between Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta, which brought out the first red flag and stopped the original race start.
Chaos continued at the restart when a heavy Turn 1 crash involving multiple riders, including Johann Zarco, led to another red flag and further delays.

Despite the interruptions and physical discomfort, Di Giannantonio remained competitive in the final restart. He gradually closed in on race leader Acosta before making a decisive move with three laps remaining to take control of the race.
The win was particularly emotional for the VR46 garage, with team founder Valentino Rossi watching trackside as the squad secured their first MotoGP victory since Marco Bezzecchi’s win at the 2023 Indian Grand Prix.
It also marked VR46’s first triumph since becoming Ducati’s official satellite team at the start of last season, ending a winless spell that had seen them fall behind rivals in the paddock hierarchy.
However, the victory comes amid growing uncertainty over Di Giannantonio’s future. Despite emerging as VR46’s leading rider this season, he is now strongly linked with a move to KTM’s factory project for the upcoming 850cc technical era, raising questions over whether this could be one of his final wins with the team.
