Cal Crutchlow delivered a gritty, no-excuses ride to finish 17th at the Brno circuit on Sunday, as extreme heat and tyre degradation turned the race into a survival challenge.
Key Highlights from Brno:
Steady recovery drive from 21st on grid
Stepping in as a replacement rider for Castrol Honda LCR, the Brit showed solid pace early on before managing a difficult second half of the race, ultimately bringing the bike home after 21st on the grid. Despite finishing outside the points, Crutchlow’s consistency and lap-time competitiveness highlighted a controlled and disciplined performance in brutal conditions.
Race Breakdown
Crutchlow made a clean start and immediately looked competitive in the opening phase of the race, engaging in tight battles and showing pace comparable to riders ahead. However, as temperatures rose and tyre wear intensified, managing the front end became increasingly difficult.
By mid-race, he was forced to ease off slightly to preserve grip, prioritising stability over aggression. In the final laps, additional challenges such as reduced power delivery added to the difficulty, but he remained composed to secure 17th place at the flag.
Crutchlow’s Take
“It was a long race, and I’m pleased to have finished it. I really enjoyed the first eight laps, but then I started struggling with the front tyre. I had some good battles during those opening stages, which was fun. After that, I had to drop back a little to manage the tyre situation and then just kept going.
Over the final seven laps, I started to lose power, which made things even more demanding. I think I could have gone faster, but the important thing was to bring the bike home. Both the team and I are happy with the outcome, and we’re already looking forward to Assen.”
Bigger Picture
While the result won’t appear on the headlines, the Brno outing reinforced Crutchlow’s value as a steady, experienced hand capable of delivering consistent lap times under pressure. With lessons learned from tyre management and race pacing, attention now shifts to the next round in Assen.
