Heartbreak in Miami: Leclerc's Costly Blunder
The heartbreak for Ferrari fans was palpable as Charles Leclerc dramatically spun out in the dying moments of the Miami Grand Prix, squandering a guaranteed podium finish. Leclerc himself admitted an error entirely of his own making.
Pushing to reclaim third place from McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, Leclerc overcommitted in his final-lap attack and spun, clipping the wall in the process. The mistake not only cost him the podium but also dropped him further down the order as George Russell and Max Verstappen capitalised on the incident.
Self-Blame from Leclerc After Costly Spin
Speaking after the race, Leclerc made no attempt to shift responsibility elsewhere, instead taking full accountability for the incident that ended his podium hopes.
“I’m very disappointed with myself. It’s all on me and it’s a mistake,” he said. “It’s not acceptable. I need to look at that.”
He also confirmed the extent of the damage sustained in the spin, noting likely tyre and suspension issues that left him struggling to control the car in the final moments.
“The damage was significant. I’m pretty sure there was a puncture, there was probably some suspension damage as well, as I couldn’t really turn to the right anymore,” Leclerc explained.
Despite speculation that earlier frustrations over strategy may have influenced his late-race aggression, Leclerc dismissed that idea entirely, insisting he remained calm in the cockpit.
“No, I was very calm actually,” he said. “I wanted to get the overtake done on the last lap. I pushed like an animal in Turn 3… but this time it didn’t work. I’m disappointed with myself.”
Investigation Adds Further Pressure
To compound his difficult evening, Leclerc is also under investigation for multiple potential infringements, including leaving the track and gaining an advantage, driving a damaged car unsafely, and a possible collision with Russell.
What began as a strong race for Ferrari ultimately ended in frustration, with Leclerc left to reflect on a rare but costly mistake at a crucial stage of the season.
