Marc Márquez has spent years refusing to make his injured right arm a talking point. But after a difficult return at Silverstone exposed just how much the injury continues to affect him, the eight-time world champion appears ready to be more open about his physical condition.
Márquez recently shared a shirtless photo on Instagram showing his heavily scarred right shoulder and arm, a limb that has undergone seven operations over the past six years. The image marked a notable change in approach for a rider who has repeatedly insisted that he does not want to discuss his arm.
The shift came after the British Grand Prix, where Márquez struggled physically despite using the summer break to prepare for his return to racing. Silverstone proved particularly demanding, with the Spaniard unable to maintain his pace throughout the weekend.
He finished ninth in the Sprint, almost 14 seconds behind winner Jorge Martín, before taking seventh in the main race. After the Sprint, Márquez admitted that he had been unable to push from the beginning to the end.
"For some reason, this time I couldn't push from start to finish," he said.
Márquez remained reluctant to blame his injury publicly after the main race, instead putting the issue down to his own physical limitations.
"The reason is me; that's what it is, and I have to manage it. It's a matter of endurance," he explained.
However, footage from a Ducati 'Inside' video later provided a clearer picture of what Márquez was experiencing on the bike. After climbing off his Ducati, he told his engineers that he had come close to crashing because he had lost control of his right arm.

The contrast between Márquez's public comments and what he revealed privately highlights his determination not to use the injury as an excuse. Even as his arm continues to limit him, he has remained focused on competing at the highest level.
Silverstone appears to have changed his perspective. After experiencing the physical impact of the injury first-hand, Márquez has seemingly accepted that his right arm is now an unavoidable part of his racing story.
Dr Samuel Antuna, the surgeon who has treated Márquez, offered a stark assessment of the situation in an interview with El Periódico. He said the rider is currently racing with "one and a half arms" because of the reduced strength in his biceps.
Antuna also pointed out that recovery becomes more difficult with age, with Márquez now 33 compared with 22 when he was younger. Despite that, the doctor highlighted the rider's resilience and determination throughout his long recovery.
For Márquez, the physical limitations have not stopped him from producing an impressive run of results. He has won four of his last six races, including three weekends where he claimed victories in both the Sprint and main race, while recovering 66 points on the championship leader.
That form has kept his pursuit of a 10th world championship alive, which would give him an eighth MotoGP title.
Márquez has repeatedly said he is "at peace" with himself, suggesting that his latest decision to show his scars is not about making excuses or lowering expectations. Instead, it appears to be an acknowledgement of the reality he faces every time he climbs onto the Ducati.
After years of keeping the extent of his physical struggles largely private, Márquez is now allowing fans to see a different side of his comeback. The scars remain, the limitations remain, but so does his determination to fight for another world title.
