Netflix is taking its love for high-octane action to the world of MotoGP with a new untitled heist thriller starring Alan Ritchson.
Ritchson, best known for his role as Jack Reacher in the Amazon series Reacher, will lead and produce the project through his Dancing Skeleton production company. The film will combine motorcycle action, international crime and family drama, giving MotoGP a fresh route into mainstream Hollywood entertainment.
The screenplay will be written by Chris Morgan, a key creative force behind the Fast & Furious franchise. His experience with large-scale action and vehicle-driven stories makes him a natural fit for a project built around high-speed motorcycles and an international heist. His collaboration with Ritchson is expected to deliver plenty of action while also giving the story a stronger emotional core.
The story follows a former MotoGP rider, played by Ritchson, who is recruited by Interpol to track down an international gang of motorcycle thieves stealing valuable antiquities. The investigation takes a personal turn when he discovers that the suspected mastermind may actually be his younger brother, who was believed to have died.
The concept has already been described as a motorcycle-driven take on the Fast & Furious formula, combining high-speed action with a family conflict at the heart of the story.
Adding another layer of authenticity, MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, formerly known as Dorna, has agreed to serve as an advisor on the film. Its involvement is expected to help ensure the motorcycles, racing environment and technical aspects of the sport are represented accurately.
That could give the film an advantage over fictional racing movies that rely heavily on Hollywood interpretation, while also introducing MotoGP to audiences who may not regularly follow the championship.
Ritchson has built an increasingly strong reputation as an action star. Before becoming widely known as Jack Reacher, he appeared as Aquaman in Smallville and starred in Blue Mountain State. He has also appeared in major productions including The Hunger Games and the Fast & Furious franchise, giving him plenty of experience with physically demanding roles and large-scale action.
With Ritchson in the lead, Morgan behind the screenplay and official MotoGP involvement, Netflix's latest project could give motorcycle racing a fresh Hollywood spotlight while delivering the high-speed thrills action fans expect.
