KTM is edging closer to finalising its Tech3 line-up for the 2027 MotoGP season, with Australian Moto2 rider Senna Agius emerging as the leading candidate for one of the team's two seats.
With Tech3 confirmed to continue its partnership with KTM into MotoGP's new 850cc era from 2027, attention has shifted to who will complete the satellite team's rider line-up.
Agius and current Moto2 championship leader Manuel Gonzalez are understood to be the main contenders for the rookie seat. However, KTM's management appears to favour Agius despite Gonzalez's stronger results in Moto2 this season.
Tech3 CEO Guenther Steiner and KTM motorsport director Pit Beirer have indicated that the team is leaning towards a blend of youth and experience as it prepares for MotoGP's biggest technical regulation overhaul in years.
The switch to 850cc machinery and Pirelli tyres is expected to reduce the adaptation gap for Moto2 graduates, making rookie riders an increasingly attractive option. Agius also benefits from his age and long-term development potential, factors believed to weigh heavily in KTM's decision-making.
While Agius appears to be in pole position, the second Tech3 seat is expected to go to an experienced MotoGP rider.

Honda's Luca Marini has emerged as the leading candidate, with KTM viewing the Italian as someone capable of helping develop the RC16 under the new regulations. Steiner has confirmed that discussions have taken place with several riders as the team evaluates its options, although no final decision has been made.
That leaves the futures of current Tech3 riders Maverick Viñales and Enea Bastianini uncertain.
Viñales had been linked with a factory KTM promotion before the manufacturer instead signed Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio for its works team. KTM has since revealed that negotiations with Viñales broke down after he was offered a place at Tech3 rather than the factory squad.
Beirer recently acknowledged Viñales' frustration but said the manufacturer wanted to give him time to regain his best form before making a final decision. Steiner also stressed that the rider selection process is being handled jointly by KTM and Tech3.
Although no official announcement has been made, KTM is expected to confirm the Tech3 line-up once the rider market settles, completing its four-rider roster for the start of MotoGP's new technical era in 2027.
