Soh Wooi Yik has moved to clear the air over speculation surrounding his future, stressing that he remains fully committed to the national badminton setup.
Recent rumours surfaced after a change to his social media profile, which led some fans to question whether the men’s doubles star was planning to leave the Badminton Association of Malaysia and turn independent.
However, Wooi Yik downplayed the situation, describing the reaction as unnecessary and emphasising that his social media is a personal space. He indicated that there was no deeper meaning behind the update and no need for further explanation.
The 2022 world champion remains an integral part of Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pairing alongside Aaron Chia, with both players continuing their preparations for upcoming international tournaments.
National men’s doubles coach Herry Iman Pierngadi had earlier dismissed the speculation, confirming that Wooi Yik is still under the national programme and focused on competition.
The episode highlights how quickly online discussions can escalate, but for Wooi Yik, the priority remains unchanged. His attention is firmly on training, performance, and maintaining consistency with his partner on the international stage.
As Malaysia looks ahead to key tournaments, the pair’s experience and stability continue to play a crucial role in the country’s men’s doubles ambitions.
