Five months after undergoing ACL surgery, world champion Toh Ee Wei has returned to light court drills without a knee brace, while partner Chen Tang Jie continues competing with different partners during her recovery.

Malaysia’s mixed doubles world champion Toh Ee Wei is making encouraging progress in her recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, returning to light court training five months after surgery.

The 26-year-old underwent surgery on June 30 and has since been working through her rehabilitation programme at the Centaur Institute in Melbourne under the guidance of physiotherapist Andrew Casserly and performance head Argell San Jose.

Recent social media updates showed Ee Wei back on court for light drills, moving without a brace on her left knee. Her progress offers an encouraging sign as she continues working towards a return to competitive badminton.

“This road may be tough, but every step I take is solid and determined... Because of my love for badminton, I will always give my all,” Ee Wei said.

Although she has made steady progress, her return to competition will depend on her recovery and readiness to resume the physical demands of the sport. ACL rehabilitation can take many months, and a return to court drills does not necessarily mean an athlete is ready for full competition.

Meanwhile, her regular mixed doubles partner, Chen Tang Jie, has continued competing to maintain his form during her absence.

Tang Jie has partnered Clarissa San at four World Tour events before teaming up with Cheng Su Yin at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. He later played alongside Chan Wen Tse at the Arctic Open.

The temporary partnerships have allowed Tang Jie to remain active on the international circuit while Ee Wei focuses on her rehabilitation.

The Malaysian pair, who won the mixed doubles world title, will be looking to reunite once Ee Wei is ready to compete again. For now, her priority remains completing each stage of recovery safely, with her return to training providing a positive step towards that goal.
