Johann Zarco is set to anchor LCR Honda’s 2026 MotoGP campaign as the team ushers in a new era with rookie Diogo Moreira, a pairing that highlights Honda’s growing emphasis on experience-led development and emerging talent.
Zarco remains a key pillar in Honda’s rebuilding effort. Despite mixed results last season, the Frenchman delivered one of the manufacturer’s standout moments with a sensational victory at a rain-affected French Grand Prix, his first MotoGP win and LCR’s first in two years. He went on to finish the season as Honda’s top-ranked rider, ending 12th overall and ahead of factory counterpart Luca Marini.
While adaptation to the updated RC213V proved challenging after mid-season, Zarco’s consistency and technical feedback continued to make him invaluable to both LCR and Honda. His role in 2026 is expected to extend beyond results, serving as a benchmark for development as the current regulation cycle enters its final year.

Alongside him, Moto2 world champion Diogo Moreira will make his premier class debut, bringing fresh energy and long-term promise to the team. The Brazilian’s arrival represents a clear shift in Honda’s rider strategy, prioritising performance potential over previous commercial considerations.
Moreira’s promotion follows a difficult campaign for Somkiat Chantra, who struggled with injuries and limited results before moving to Honda’s World Superbike programme. In contrast, Moreira’s commanding Moto2 title run left little doubt about his readiness for the step up.
Early signs have been encouraging. During the Sepang Shakedown, Moreira posted the sixth fastest time among rookies and test riders, suggesting a smooth initial transition to the RC213V and reinforcing expectations that he could play a meaningful role in Honda’s recovery.
LCR Honda will again field two distinct liveries in 2026, with Zarco continuing in Castrol colours and Moreira representing Pro Honda following the end of the Idemitsu partnership. While visually notable, the greater significance lies in what the rider pairing represents for Honda’s future direction.
LCR finished 10th in the team standings last season, but with Zarco’s leadership and Moreira’s rapid rise, the team enters 2026 aiming to close the gap to the front as Honda pushes forward into a pivotal year.
