Fermin Aldeguer says his recovery from a serious leg injury is going well but he is not yet ready to return to MotoGP action, making him unlikely to compete at the opening race of the 2026 season in Thailand.
The Gresini Racing rider suffered a fractured femur earlier this month and was already ruled out of the upcoming Sepang pre‑season test. He also missed the team’s official launch in Kuala Lumpur on January 31, instead joining via video call.

Speaking during the event, Aldeguer said his focus remains on healing and rebuilding strength. He said he is feeling better each day and getting closer to riding again, but he cannot yet name a specific race or date for his comeback. He added that he has personal goals in mind, including a possible return at the Brazilian GP in March or the Austin round, but stressed that final decisions will depend on medical checks and how his leg responds.
Aldeguer’s injury comes ahead of his second season in MotoGP, following an impressive rookie campaign that included his first premier‑class victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
The three‑day official Sepang test is scheduled from February 3 to 5, but Aldeguer will miss that as he continues rehabilitation. His return to the bike remains uncertain, with the team and rider monitoring his progress closely before confirming any further participation.
