Johann Zarco made a positive return to MotoGP action at the Aragon GP, securing 15th place on Sunday and scoring a valuable championship point in his first race back after more than three months out with injury.
Starting ninth on the grid, the Castrol Honda LCR rider was handed a double Long Lap Penalty, but he made a strong launch and quickly joined the fight for a top-10 position.
Zarco maintained a solid pace before serving both penalties, allowing him to recover into the points-paying positions.
“I came here to do the double Long Lap Penalty and get the feeling on the bike. That was the goal. I took a point yesterday and today, and that’s awesome!” Zarco said.
More importantly, the Frenchman was encouraged by how quickly he adapted after his lengthy absence. He praised his LCR team and said he was able to provide consistent feedback throughout the weekend.
“I really enjoyed my weekend with the team. I had missed them! One of the most important things is that I got some interesting feelings on the bike and was able to provide consistent and solid feedback to the crew,” he added.
Zarco admitted that returning to MotoGP after missing several races can make it difficult to regain the rhythm and confidence needed at the highest level. However, he felt comfortable from the opening sessions at Aragon.
“Sometimes, when you miss some races, you need to catch up, and it’s not always easy. This time, everything felt quite good, and I was able to get it from the beginning of the weekend.”
After collecting a point on Sunday, Zarco described his comeback weekend as a highly satisfying one.
“I’m really happy to be back and to have had such a nice weekend!”
