The Youth and Sports Ministry plans to develop more motorsports circuits across the country to boost the sport’s growth and tap into rising interest among young Malaysians.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the ministry has received many proposals related to motorsports development, including applications to construct permanent racing facilities.
“I have only recently assumed this role, and among the earliest proposals that came in were requests to build racing circuits. Each application will be reviewed carefully,” he said.
According to Taufiq, the projects could be carried out through collaboration between federal and state governments.
He said every proposal will be evaluated based on its merits to ensure that motorsports development progresses in an organised and sustainable way.
“I want motorsports to truly be enjoyed by all, especially at the grassroots level and across all age groups and communities.
“To me, motorsports should not be viewed as an exclusive sport, but one that is open and accessible to everyone,” he said.
Taufiq also stressed that sports should not be tied to political interests, but instead serve as a unifying force that brings Malaysians together regardless of race, religion or political beliefs.
He added that the ministry’s main priority is to create positive platforms so youths with an interest in motorsports can pursue their passions safely and productively.
“That is the responsibility of the government and the ministry — to ensure young people’s enthusiasm is channelled into meaningful activities that ultimately benefit the nation,” he said.
